METROPOLIS

According to the film ‘Metropolis’ directed by Fritz Lang in the year 1927, there are many unforeseen elements to consider besides an enjoyment. As a silent film, the storyline focuses on a relationship between humans and mechanical assets. As in the film, humans are roughly divided into two separated classification in the society which is the working class people and John Fredersen’s high society. The upper class people live on the upper town surface which is called the ‘Metropolis’. It is filled with many modern architecture constructions such as skyscrapers and sky trains.
Focusing on the lower society, the blue collars work very hard to live their daily life in factories with poor infrastructure, public transportation and small simple accommodations. Mechanical element has become a part of their lives and perspective of beauty. With machines, geometrical forms and simplicity, these elements were the symbolic of the poor during the period of time.
Questioningly, after modernism movement, cubism, purism and minimalism the rich became more appreciate this simplicity forms. This seems like kitsch in the bigger society. Metropolis spread out. It becomes bigger and more stabilized. The rich and the poor cannot be separated by the decoration element like previous time and they should not be separated from now on.

Does It Worth $135m???

Gustav Klimt

Gustav Klimt is an artist that works on paintings and sculptures. Also, he is one of the members of Vienna Secession, which is a group of Austrian architects and artists form the period. Gustav Klimt have been created so many paintings such as ‘The Kiss’, ‘Music II’, ‘Leda’, ‘Mother and child’, ‘Hygia’ and ,one of his most famous work, the “Golden portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer”. Later on, Ronald S Lauder, a cosmetics magnet, has brought this painting for $135 million and made the painting became the most expensive painting in the history. Gustav, now, is a bigger league than famous artist like Picasso or Van Gogh. However, does his painting really worth for $135 million since he has never created any unstable master piece work. Or did he change art like the other two artists did, all he was before is just one member of Vienna Secession until Lauder splashed the money on his painting. Comparing Gustav Klimt to many famous artists in the history, most of his paintings are showing a naked blond holding up a mirror and staring out at us, which it is either look backward as well as impractical. This is might be the reason why he did not became a true heroic modern artist. In my opinion, Gustav got lucky that Lauder decide to give him a big hit of cash. In the mean time, it could be considered him as a good artist who was able to create a painting and persuade someone to spend so much money on it. However, if discuss about the price of the painting, I’ll say that the Adele Bloch-Bauer do not worth $135m nor does Gustav deserve to be in a bigger league than Picasso or Van Gogh.
